From an interview in USA Today, singer Marc Martel, lead singer in The Queen Extravaganza, the Queen tribute band put together by Queen's Roger Taylor:

Marc says this about current Queen front man Adam Lambert:

**Adam Lambert in Auckland, NZ with Queen

Excerpts from the article/interview:

"Martel's gig with the Queen Extravaganza led to high-profile performances on shows like Ellen and American Idol. When Queen announced several shows and then a tour with former Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, he watched with bemusement as Internet skirmishes flared between fans of the two singers over which was the better interpreter of Mercury's songs."

""In my opinion, Queen has the current best male singer in the world singing for them," Martel says of Lambert. "I went to see their show in New York, and the dude does not strain or miss a single note. He's an incredible virtuoso."

""When people get so emotional and defensive — and offensive — about this whole thing, the first gut reaction to is to get defensive yourself, but it's just rock and roll. It's fun. I enjoy it.""

Sounds like Marc has a good head on his shoulders. He and Adam are fulfilling entirely different roles with the Queen experience. Marc's job is to BE Freddie. Look, act and sing like him. And he does a great job. Adam's job is to be ADAM, interpreting the songs through his own inner muse. Brian and Roger clearly saw the distinction between what the Extravaganza needed and what they needed themselves. All worked out.

I love Marc's comments about Adam. He seems to "get it" like we do. Seems like a good guy.

I am glad Marc Martel went to see the NY show. Then he knew personally how well Adam fit in with Queen. BTW, I listened to Marc's song on his new album, called Paradise, I really liked it. If he can get the right backing, he will do extremely well. He has a great voice, and used it well in this song. WTG Marc.

Thanks for posting @Glitzylady! This was so generous of Marc Martel & maybe it will quiet some of the die hard Queen fans that haven't allowed themselves to experience the power of Adam. Marc does sound like Freddie, but Adam vocally outshadows both men. I agree. Adam is the current best male singer in the world.

People heard Marc insulted Adam when he talked with friends after a QE show (LA). It's either he's trying to sound PC and classy here or perhaps he realized he cannot measure up to Adam in terms of range, fashion, theatricality/camp, charisma/showmanship, originality/authenticity after watching Adam live?
Adam does more than these. He also controls the sound and direction of the band, and he injects a hell lot of joy/fun and energy to push the band to play their best. He's spontaneous and he improvises all the time, and once in a while, he'll do a killer note or runs that stuns everyone. I have never seen Brian and Roger have so much fun and smile/laugh the way they do with Adam. Moreover, Adam is very successful internationally and he's able to bring Brian n Roger back to Japan Oz and NZ, plus he has the demand to help sell out every venue instantaneously! Sold out MSG in just one day! That's says it all!
